another rite of passage

Piano lessons, trumpet, his soccer game this Monday--all on hold. My son broke his arm tonight. He's being a trooper about it, though. It had to be his right arm, unfortunately.

At least he has something cool to show the kids on Monday. The next four weeks won't be much fun for him, though.

ouch, broken bones. how? how bad?

hope he has a spiffing cast, hmm? Do they still do the ones that glow in the dark?

It's a "buckle fracture" in his radius--which isn't a bad break if you're going to have one. What sucks for him is the limitation the cast--which is blue fiberglass, but not a glowy one, sadly--places on him--he can't do a lot, like pick up things with his hand.

Spiffing?

Methinks a "pip pip" is in order, followed by a "cheerio lads"

interesting. right after camila had her post about how her new fear was broken bones...hope it's not too painful, heals quickly, etc...was it from skateboarding and shooting baskets at the same time?

Yes, after the previous post I can see why it would seem logical... Actually, he was on his "trick" bike and it turned too sharp or something and he went over and landed on his hand the the pressure broke the bone.

Fortunately, my wife is a nurse, so she did the whole emergency ward thing--she knows her way around there pretty well.

As for Camila's post--we must now burn her as a witch, before anyone else is hurt...

pat 'im on the head for me, willya?

Daniel breaks his bones a lot. We all poke his casts. Tell him in the long run he will have the experience of having broken a bone, and he broke it in the perfect place. Breaking a collarbone or something is hell because all they can do is give you lots of painkillers and crap (I mean, how would you put a cast on it...) so he's lucky it's his arm. And such a nice part of his arm. All the cool soccer boys here (daniel, matt sundquist, not cole) break their wrists at some point, so he's in good company. Lately I've actually been wishing I could break a wrist (preferably the right because I like a challenge and then I could complain) so that I could know what it's like. So tell your son he is living the dream of a teenaged girl in Virginia. *cackle*
